I am originally from Germany where I was trained and worked as a medical technologist before I moved to Johannesburg in 1987. A mother of two sons by then, I studied at Wits University and added a BSc. in Microbiology to my credentials before moving back to Germany to work in a cancer research and liver transplant unit at Hamburg University – in the end to find out that I was really more interested in alternative healing methods than in technology based medicine...
In 1997 my husband, children and I decided to move back to South Africa where we opened a guest house in Knysna, called Zauberberg Cottage. It was here where I took up yoga again, inspired by the beautiful surrounds to re-connect with my real self.

Re-starting yoga after 20 years with a lower back problem was a challenge, but from the beginning it was also always a lot of fun. I visited Iyengar classes in Knysna for many years – being very thankful for the precision and the “tools” I was introduced to. In 2004 I began my yoga intensive training (500 hrs) in Germany at the Yoga Vidya Ashrams which follow the Sivananda tradition. I received my EFYTA (European Federation of Yoga Teachers Association) accredited teacher’s certificate in 2005. Since then I have visited overseas workshops anually, completing among other a Reiki and a marma massage course, as well as an advanced teachers training course in 2007 with particular focus on Hatha Yoga as well as Vedanta philosophy.

Having travelled widely in Europe, the US and Canada and Southern Africa over these past years, my vision has always been to visit India, to experience eastern culture and spirituality. In September 2009 I finally was able to make this dream come true - some of our experiences along this unfolding journey can be seen here.
